ASCOT R2 1600M WESTPEED PLATINUM NO METRO 1600M HANDICAP ; STARTTHEFRIAR
With last weeks abandoned meeting being re run throughout the week and this race being restricted to Westpeed Platinum horses we decided it was a perfect opportunity to head back to Saturday racing with Startthefriar. As predicted it’s a very winnable race and while the current odds have him as the outsider of the field , he is topweight for a reason and is a serious chance of finishing on the podium.
Expect him to be out the back early from his wide draw. The small field gives him every chance to balance up and come with one run at them as he did two starts ago at Northam. Hardest to beat will no doubt be Arnie’s Boy who we clashed with at Pinjarra last start. His run that day was enormous , settling back last with us and finishing hard down the outside for 2nd on a day it was tough to make ground. His record and in fact the entire fields , us included , indicate a lack of consistency and luck in running will again play a huge part. Jade Mcnaught has been booked for her first ride in the lucky duck silks. Getting 1 1/2 kg claim for one of the state’s leading hoops is pretty handy!
