Sunday Prayers

Best Bet Pinjarra r6 Zadar Rock ; Led and controlled it first up and was never going to lose . Should find the front again here and the extra 100m wont be an issue. $2.15 isn’t going to make us rich but it’s about right in my opinion.

Quaddie (r6-9); 3 , 2 3 4 6 7 8 10 11 13 , 1 3 9 , 2 4 8 $81 for 100%

We are on weather watch for this meeting. Thunderstorms are predicted so if they arrive and make the conditions tough I will just leave it and save my money for another day.

Best Bet Ascot r5 Gold Merits ; Still having nightmares about last start when she got out too late and charged , missing the breakaway leader by a nostril , big gap to 3rd. She is a get back and explode late type of mare so it’s always going to be heart in mouth type stuff but we simply have to back up. Much happier with barrier 6 opposed to 1 , hopefully Laqdar stays off the fence to make finding a run easier for himself. Time Scale will be in front for a long way , could be a sense of deja vu halfway down the straight. The Thunderess was back to her best first up , gets a lovely run , very dangerous .

Best Roughie Ascot r7 Costume Party ; While the boom on the favourite is justified , she still has to jump from barrier 15 of a capacity field of 16 2yo’s. She either settles last and comes via the carpark or risks getting posted 3 /4 deep the trip . At $1.80 we’ll leave her for the brave / silly punters . Costume Party looks primed to run a race 3rd up. Raced without luck both first and 2nd up behind the same fav she meets here. Yes we’re most likely needing bad luck for the fav and a great ride from Mcnaught from barrier 12 but we’re getting $31 / $6 . Tipping midfield , 3 deep with cover could be the place to be and suits her racing style , so hopefully Jade can find some cover and let her rip down the straight. Nothing wrong with She’s Greysful”s form or first up run. The colts don’t look as good as the fillies but most have drawn much better which brings them in it. In summary 10/90 % split of stake and a crack at the novelties.

1st ; 10 11 12

2nd - 4th 2 3 10 11 12 $36 trifecta $72 first 4.

There’s a doubt on She’s Greysful(12) starting , add 2 to 1st and 4 into 2nd -4th.if she comes out.

You could include most of the field for 3rd and 4th but that’s expensive and still hard to get . I will have the above combo’s for 100% trifecta , 25 % First 4.

Best Bet Albany r6 Hoolahoops ; Is at the top of her game and deserving of another win. Big runs in defeat last few.

Best Value Albany r7 Scream in Blue ; $12/ $3.30 for a last start Mount Barker Cup runner up vs $2.45 for a fav who’s a bit hit and miss seems like a good bet to me. Down on the minimum in a easier race.

Ascot Analysis

Best Bet Ascot r2 All The Kings Men ; 2yo who has raced without luck his entire career to date. Always running on late , suggesting the 1400m will be suitable. Might have to go back to last from the wide gate but should have the finish on him to round up the small field. The price is disappearing as I type so best be quick if you agree with me.

Ascot Quaddie (r4-8) ; 1 , 1 3 5 , 1 2 3 , 1 2 3 4 6 7 9 10 11 . $99 FOR 100%

  • No Dice should be winning r4 but she has 59kgs and has been up a long time so I am going to stand her out in the quaddie rather than having a big win bet at the short odds.

Best Bet Pinjarra r8 My Mate; Didn’t handle the straight 1000m first up but only two starts around a bend have been ultra impressive. Controls it from the front and takes running down. Pick Your Battles most likely sits right on his hammer and it’s a long straight so will get his opportunity and is the clear danger .

Pinjarra Quaddie (r5-8) ; 1 2 7 8 10 , 2 3 4 , 1 3 4 5 8 , 6 (3) $75 for 100% (could include 3 for a smaller percentage for insurance.

Geraldton r2 Pop The Moet ; 17 start maiden who has somehow turned the corner last two starts. Sat outside leader on a mad leaders bias day and toughed it out for 2nd , streaking the rest. Again sat outside the leader and hit the front only to be nabbed on the line. Expect it to lead today and be hard to catch. The favourite is better suited to 1200m but you can leave me out of $1.65 . Going a conservative 25/75 split of stake.

Best Bet Geraldton r4 The Witch Doctor ; Showed a great turn of foot to come from last up the cutaway last start . Versatile mare who actually drops in weight due to the class rise. Pit to Win is flying and the young hoop is having a big week. Edmond should improve off the first up run , just feel the witch is the bet at the better odds.

Geraldton Quaddie (r4-7) ; 2 4 6 ; 1 5 7 8 , 1 3 , 4 5 6 9 10 11 . $144 for 100%

Best Bet Ascot r4 Buster Bash ; Had two blackbooks when he last appeared and Murphy’s law struck as I went the wrong way , saving on the quinella at least. Went straight to the front and broke their hearts , romping in by over 4 lengths. Drops to 52 kgs after the claim with an apprentice renowned for aggressive front running tactics. I’m going to contradict myself here by saying I’m extremely confident it wins but I’m not happy with the price. It is coming from a midweek c3 to a 72 + which is a significant jump. Was expecting $3.50 - $4 but it is what it is and I’m having a crack! For serious punters I’m thinking we could possibly lay off our liability in the run as I’m certain he will lead clearly . For the average punter I’m also confident he will keep going. Expected rain enhances his chances if anything.

Ascot r7 Alaskan God ; Another case of love the horse, not the price . For full disclosure I’m already on for a stack in n the Derby in two weeks time so I wont be going too hard in this race.. It was breathtaking late against the older horses last start , putting them away with arrogance. Gets the right run here to repeat but again meets a stronger field. Rockanori and Trix of the Trade are very smart animals , Pale Rider looks like he will stay. Henchard and Hear Me Sing not hopeless . It looks like the strongest group of 3yo stayers in a long time and not one in the Cerise and White!

BARKER BETS

Best Bet Mt Barker r6 Garage Days ; When Durrant takes CJP with him to these country meetings they generally mean business. Racing out of grade slightly but going well enough to win. Apollo and Starauthoress are the map horses , Box Quinella.

Pinjarra Punts

Pinjarra r2 Many Mansions ; Beaten a length by Stella Fair after racing without luck is most definitely the right form for this. My best winning chance for the day but won’t be buying mansions at $2.60 so not labeling it a “BEST BET” .

Best Value Pinjarra r6 Lucky Foo Foo ; Ran 3rd on debut over 1100m. Resumed down the straight 1000m and thought it hit the line nice enough for a 1200m weak maiden. Worth an each way bet at $14 with CJP in the saddle.

Best Bet Ascot R5 Blonde Warrior ; Has been hitting the line over shorter distances in better company. Not much between her and What About Moi but I’ll use the pull in the weights and his unplaced track record to back the mare confidently. Wheatstack Thief has ability but is very wayward.

Mad Roughie Pinjarra r5 Woodbug ; @ $126 this is a stark raving bonkers throw at the stumps! Two starts ago won a 4 horse race at the picnics. with 68kgs. More interested in it’s two surrounding runs. Finished 5.5 lengths behind My Baby Blue Jean last start and only 2.9 lengths behind Material Witness before that . Drops to 52kgs and gets a decent run from the barrier. Is it likely to win or place ? Probably not , Is it worth a coup[e of dollars each way to see if we can jag one ? I think so.

Pinjarra r7 Utgard Loki ; Went almighty close in the Bunbury Cup and now meets the winner 2kgs better . Should get the run of the race , my only question is the extra 200m but he is now trained by Wa’s best trainer of stayers .Market is fascinating . There was a significant move for the stablemate come right back who is now scratched and the other one True attraction opened favourite , Loki replaced him for a while and now he is back at the top. Always tricky trying to pick the right one but I’m sure both are trying to win and we are drawn for the better run.

Best Bet Pinjarra r8 Imprudent ; Straight racing is his cup of tea and he is drawn closest to the outside which is a great spot to be. Competitive race with other chances but his last 3 efforts down the straight were good enough to win here.

Pinjarra Quaddie (r5-8) ; 1 3 7 9 11 , field , 12 , 1 . $50 for 100%

I generally go skinny in quaddies . This one is very high risk as the two standouts are by no means “good things”. Follow at your own risk!

Best Bet Ascot r2 Gold Merits ; This horse is absolutely flying . He will need the sea’s to part somewhere in the straight from barrier 1 which is always a concern but if the run appears in time he should go almighty close.

Mad Roughy Ascot r8 Starthefriar ; Just looked up the price to confirm before typing and it’s $31 / $6 place. That is gross unders. Thought his last run was a sign he wasn’t completely finished . Didn’t beat many home but he ran on from a totally hopeless position in a totally unsuitable race. This is more suitable and he is a funny horse who can pull a run out of nowhere. At his opening quote of $71 / $13 i was going to donate a couple of dollars each way for old times sake. The fact remains he is still donuts from 11 starts at Ascot and unless he drifts back out I won’t bother .

Flemington r6 Zaaki ; Such a big day over east and tough day at Ascot so thought I’d offer my thoughts on a couple of the big ones. One of the very elite WFA horses in the country who has been set for this against a very good field but are they more handicappers compared to him?

Rosehill r5 Veery Elleegant ; How is $1.40 available here? You should never bet what you can’t afford to lose because there is no such thing as a good thing in horse racing but she really should be Winx odds over 2000m on a wet track.

Best Bet Geraldton r4 Mountain Ash; Promised a bit early in his career but didn’t measure up to city racing. Since moving to Geraldton he has hit his straps and considering he is only a 12 start 3yo there should be a few more wins in store in this company. Honorific is 60 days between runs with the dreaded bar plates on and the rest have reached their mark.

Geraldton Quaddie (r4-7) 5 , 3 , 1 2 4 7 , field $40 for 100%

Geraldton Quaddie (r4-7) 2 9 , 3 , 1 2 4 7 , field $80 for 100%

Best Bet Ascot r1 Harmika ; Market has it a race in two and I’m thinking the race fitness gives the filly the edge. She has also competed at a slightly higher level whereas Overoneson is coming from 1400 maiden win 2 months ago with no trial in between.

Best Value Ascot r4 She’s Artie & Star Present ; It was only an Esperance maiden win but She’s Artie was never going to lose first up. She is well bred so although she didn’t fire a shot in her first prep perhaps she just wasn’t ready to be a racehorse . At $19 I’m prepared to have an each way bet in a pretty even field . Star Present is the class dropper with a very useful 3kg claim giving her a big chance. Win only bet on her too.

Ascot r7 Strike Now ; Another race with two equal favourites . Strike Now should nearly be undefeated with his only defeat a narrow second when racing in restricted room. Getting better with each run , the only question I have is his racing manners in a considerably harder race. What makes it harder is Buster Bash who looks ready to win after his close up 3rd in a much better form race . He is likely to roll to the top and give a good kick . A pattern that is assisting either leaders or run on types would be a big factor in this clash. Both definitely go in the quaddie .

Ascot Quaddie (r4-7) ; 1 2 3 6 , 1 4 5 , 1 3 4 5 6 7 10 , 1 4 $168 for 100%

Best Bet Ascot r3 Heavenly Sky : Thought it’s debut 3rd was massive considering where it came from on the corner , running past a long priced winner on Wednesday in Winning Aces to give the form some merit. Hopefully can settle much closer from the better barrier and set after the likely leader and stablemate in Market Stryke . He was unlucky first up and hasn’t missed a place in five attempts . Being a stablemate in a big betting stable , a significant move either way will influence our confidence. If they come for the favourite and she drifts , leave it alone . If they support the filly bet with confidence. If both remain steady proceed with caution.

Ascot r7 Currimundi ; 2 lengths 3rd behind Rockinori ( Won Saturday’s Roberts Stakes running down Trix Of The Trade ) stands out like a beacon here. 2nd in that race has since failed but in a harder race. Not much meat on the bone at $2.10 but if it’s not him it’s a raffle .

Ascot Quaddie (r5-8) 2 5 (6) 8 9 , 1 5 , 4 , field * $110 for 100% or you considering having less percentage on runners 2 5 8 9 in first leg , higher spend on the fav 6 as it’s hard to beat.

Ascot r4 Melody’s Secret ; We found her at 30’s two starts back in a Belmont c3 and the race sets up similarly. Drawn to sit midfield the fence with no weight and if the breaks go her way late she is capable of a burst of speed that gives her a sniff at good each way odds. We might get better than the current $16 too. 25/75 % split of stake .

Best Value Ascot r6 Feels Danish ; 3yo fillies where nearly all are a query at the distance , Feels Danish is not. Last horse to run past Float Our Boat who has won 3 since in effortless fashion. Last start I feel she wasn’t suited to being held up waiting for the cutaway so from the wide draw can try and turn it into a staying test. Although this is a listed race , being competitive against older horses in the distance range is a great base to attack this race from . 40/60 % split of stake. Constant Dreaming very hard to beat and worth saving on but going for the value.

Early Quaddie r3-6 ; 1 , 4 6 8 , 1 4 , 1 6 . $12 for 100%

Best Bet Ascot r8 Tri For Us ; First go at the trip but has had a very solid build up for it culminating in a tough win over 1800m. There’s no questioning the stables preparation of stayers and if she gets the trip she’ll win. Baranova is the true stayer with upside , her first up run indicated to me she may need at least this one before she shows her best.

Ascot r9 Cristal Dane ; What a preparation this mare is having . Bought as a broodmare proposition she has now won two and placed in two Saturday graduation races . I have a picture in my bar of Angelique’s Fame beating her at Bunbury only last year. This is a step up again , especially when you compare the form lines to Comes a Time but that horse is suspect at 1400m and Weaponson will be giving her a big head start.

Quaddie r7-10 ; 1 3 6 8 9 10 , 6 , 3 4 7 , 1 2 . $36 for 100%

Pinjarra Punts

Best Bet Pinjarra r3 War Hymn ; Failed to run down a leader who got a picnic in front first up but still fought it out to the line. Not much form to work with amongst the opposition and those that have shown anything at all are likely going to have to give us a head start from their respective barriers.

Pinjarra r7 Float Our Boat ; It’s two wins at Mt Barker have been dominant front running performances. This is a big step up but our staying ranks are very even so a free running leader who will be out of trouble will always take catching. He’s A Lucky Lad is also nominated for Saturday. If he’s scratched then the price will be gone so at least wait for acceptances so you don’t cop a massive deduction.

Pinjarra Quaddie (r5-8) ; 1 2 3 4 6 7 8 9 10 , 1 2 3 4 5 7 , 9 , 6. $54 for 100% *

*you could easily consider adding n1 in 3rd leg if here , I’m happy to spend less and risk it.

Best Bet Ascot r3 Snippy Miss ; A strike rate of 3/39 and 1/21 track record don’t exactly scream BEST BET however she has run a plethora of placings and I don’t rate the others at the top of the market. The Durrant / CJP combo is on fire , a bit like our tips so we’ll combine again.

Novelties ; Keen to take on Time Scale and Kholi so we will try and make some money out of the novelties .

1st 5

2nd 1 4 7 ($3 exacta)

3rd 1 2 4 7 ($9 Trifecta)

4th Field ($45 first 4)

Ascot r4 My Boy Chris ; Did work both first and 2nd up and both winners look above maiden grade. Maps to get every possible and back 100m so one more chance to hang on. Lexington City on debut looks the clear danger.

Monday Money Makers

York r5 Stellar Fair ; The horse it beat last start won at Pinjarra Thursday and is a promising horse who I would heavily favour to beat this lot. Durrant is the master of picking off country feature races with his lesser lights. CJP is his willing accomplice.

Best Bet York r6 The Anvil ; Can’t go past the 2nd to Gallant Ranger two starts back in this line up , especially with the likely map advantage over the other main chances in Rocky Path , Under The Radar and Orange Strudel.

Sunday Prayers

Best Bet Esperance r4 Wise Words ; Just touched off in a metro c1 , yes the form out of the c1 is pretty average but it now comes to an Esperance c2 . The Albany maiden win at the start prior was quite solid and that form has stood up. The 3rd to My Baby Blue Jean is very good for this despite beaten margin as she would do the same if not worse to these.

Esperance r7 Off Wego ; $4 is short enough for a horse racing out of his weight division but the stable just place their stayers to perfection as today’s Bunbury Cup shows. They simply have the secret to getting the best out of horses over a distance. There’s not much difference in the WA stayers class wise until you get to the very top few so with CJP making the trip he is the one to beat.
