Best Each Way Belmont r5 Galway Shawl ; Showed a sharp turn of foot to win over 1000m on debut off the back of two trial wins and now presents 2nd up at double figures. Backmarkers over the Belmont 1000 don’t generally have a great record however I think some of the on pace runners here will be under pressure and vulnerable late .

Best Bet Belmont r7 Deltason ; The 3yo’s continue to beat up on the older horses , especially in the lower grades and he drops a long way in class and rises to a much more suitable 1200m. Now he’s into odds on ($1.95) the “Best Bet” tag is questionable but he is the most obvious winner on the program , hopefully you have a boost available somewhere .

Ascot r2 Pin Deep ; Some will question 61kgs over 1100m but he is 2/2 at the distance and bolted in last start with 60kgs. If he pings the gates as he usually does and gets across Resonator without having to work then he’s up to this on a track that often plays on pace .

Best Each Way Ascot r3 Saam Time Lucky ; Only brings midweek Belmont 3yo form to this but only narrowly beaten by some handy types aa nd few of the others including the fav bring maiden form. She can use her race fitness and turn of foot to run a race at each way prices.

Best Bet Ascot r9 Comfort Me ; 9yo marvel who saves his best for the Railway Stakes every year , placing at massive prices on multiple occasions. Led all the way in this race last year and maps to get an identical run at each way prices. Very confident he runs top 3 . Bonjoy would go on top from a better gate. She is on track for a massive campaign , just going to give away a massive headstart in a likely slowly run race.

Northam Numbers

Northam r5 Quiet Goddess( Place )& SRM Profound Benefit (1) & Quiet Goddess (12) Top 4

Same track , distance and class , Quiet Goddess is much better placed to run a race at odds 2nd up . Forget first up , the big girl was held tight in restricted room for the majority of the straight in a farcically run affair where the first three in running ran top 3. While barrier 1 and 1300m may not be perfect , she can hold a spot without spending a penny and if the run presents she should be hitting the line .

Statewide’s 2yo form is top shelf. Wide draw , first up 1300m off 1 trial makes the $1.85 unappealing. Still the most likely winner but prefer to make money elsewhere . La Excellence did nothing first couple of starts then ran 2 solid 2nds. A month between runs with a tick over trial , the odds still look unappealing value wise. No Short Man is on debut off moderate trials. Not sure why it’s in the market from a wide draw. Profound Benefit is limited but been racing ok and looks better value than the other two hence the SRM top 4 selection.

Early Quaddie (r2-5) ; 1 2 4 5 6 9 , 8 , 1 2 3 6 8 10 , 8 12 .

If we make it to the last leg we don’t have to back Quiet Goddess for the win , if we get knocked out I will put a little on just in case.

Best Bet Ascot r5 Startling Star ; She was on a rapidly improving upward spiral at her first 3 starts as the distances increased , culminating in a fast finishing maiden win in a race that has produced multiple winners since , including a Saturday graduation. Bit flat last start , that was off seven days and on heavy so willing to forgive . Both her parents were group 1 stars and if she has any petrol left she should be mighty hard to beat.

Ascot r7 Fine Star ; Her form stands out head and shoulders above the rest and she is drawn to get too many favours over the only other runner with decent form in Hedawood who has a big weight and outside gate.

SRM Fine Star (n4) Win Dominatus (n8) Top 4 . ; 1 start maiden in a c1 , thought he hit the line well enough on debut to try and add some value in a thin race outside the top 2 in betting.

Geraldton r2 Busy Fingers ; Brings his trial form to the races he will go very close. Bunbury winning form already come out of the latest one. Durrant runners have a great record here.

Best Bet Geraldton r4 DeGrandholme ; Can be a little inconsistent but his first up run behind now Westpeed Platinum Saturday winner Surfside Session reads extremely well for a Gero Cl2 .

Best Bet Ascot r2 Linchpin ; 2nd Career start at 1600m at Ascot on a Saturday off a debut 1400m maiden win. Not a usual candidate for a best bet however he was impressive sitting deep throughout , he’s well bred , 2nd in the maiden has won since and this isn’t very strong for a graduation .

SRM Linchpin (11) top 3 Grandad’s Addiction (8) top 4. Grandad is a $34 pop who’s two starts this preperation have resulted in a 1400m maiden win and a 2nd to Pharoah Show over 1695m . We are tipping him at dbl figures later in the program so he goes in the SRM to add some juice.

Best Each Way Ascot r4 Surfside Session ; Hot speed anticipated here and this lightly raced 4yo maps to stalk it and hopefully run past them. Fair bit harder than last couple of runs but he should also be ready to peak 3rd up.

Best Value Ascot r7 Pharoah Show ; Liked the way this galloper hit the line in a dominant c1 win last start and should be even stronger over the extra 100m. This is a wide open raffle so I’m happy to play the double figures on a horse who is looking for 1800m.

Best Bet York r3 Rainline ; Only win in 11 career starts was in a Saturday 2yo race . 3yo season was disappointing , two runs this time in have been better in metro cl 3’s. 52+ grade at York presents a wonderful opportunity to return to the winners stall.

Best Bet Northam r4 Hoya Destroyer ; A very hard horse to take short odds on due to it’s racing pattern as a get back run on type who keeps flashing home but leaving it too late. Northam played fair on Sunday , winners came from everywhere depending on the tempo so we are in the hands of the jockeys there . Won’t get a better opportunity.

SRM Hoya Destroyer (2) Top 2 , Vexatious Rose (8) Top 3 ; Drawn alongside , same form , same racing pattern , she looks the obvious danger if the race is run to suit. Going back to 3rd in case something else causes the boilover which happened a lot Sunday.

Best Value Northam r3 Quiet Goddess ; she has drawn awkward in 9/12 and there is not much speed in this on paper so BG has a job to do early. Cover in the back half is our aim , get her traveling comfortably and let her rip down the straight. The fav Wonderfully Made has also drawn awkward on our outside , it led under a throttle hold in it’s recent trial so who knows what tactics they will engage. Profound Benefit is a 14 start maiden who had every possible last start but has race fitness and Pike , Boun Amici’s 2yo form is good enough , his trial looked awful to the eye .

Betting Strategy ; 25% win 75% place ; While the fav looks very talented , $1.80 from the carpark off a soft trial ? Happy enough to suggest we are over the odds and worth a bet at $16 /$4 .

Northam r4 Vienna Calling ; Two run on efforts over 1000m , the latest in a 3yo Plate , should have her primed to run a big race stepping up to 1300m and dropping back to maiden grade. Has the barrier advantage over main danger God’s Grin.

Best Bet Northam r6 Toronado Rocket ; Best part of his maiden win was the last 100m so tipping he will run the 1400m out real strong. Never easy with 60kgs but he has the class to go back to back.

Kalgoorlie r1 Argyle Star ; Different horse once stepped up in trip and thriving for the new stable. Has the versatility to win this from any position . Only has to handle the 2 day back up and it will be mighty hard to beat.

Best Bet Kalgoorlie r8 Starry Heights ; We successfully tipped Ginger Baker to win the Coolgardie Cup , switched to Sentimental Hero due to the increase in distance / big weight in the Boulder cup and now we go for a tipping clean sweep by selecting Starry Heights to use the weight advantage in the Kalgoorlie Cup . Drawn out this time , Pike will have his eyes on Sentimental Hero and sweep up on the home turn and hopefully right on by to go back to back .

Best Value Kalgoorlie r1 Pearly Nugget ; $6 outsider in a field of 4 with a track & distance record of 4 starts for 3 wins and a 2nd screams value. Maybe the 39 days between runs is putting punters off but I think she either sits 1/1 on a good speed or outside the lead at worst and from there as good a chance as the other 3.

Best Roughy Kalgoorlie r7 Secret Attire ; The Hannans is always a horses for courses type race and Secret Attire is another runner with great track stats going around at $20. Cool Memory leads for fun and is hard to catch but wont get the wet track this time. Secret Attraction is $4 2nd fav and she beat it home fair and square last start to show how much value is in the $20.

Best SRM Geraldton r1 Celebrity Angel (9) Win , Gingeriffic (10) Top 3

Form wise this 3yo filly should justify the short quote . I Can’t entertain the odds on it’s own however as it may have to burn petrol at both ends and it’s an extra 100m . The stable mate Gingeriffic comes from the same form reference and draws soft. She gets one more chance to run a place , has folded late both runs this prep but should get every chance in a weaker race. Dixie Princess (6) and She’satrooper (7) are the dangers . No prices available yet

Best Bet Geraldton r2 Must Be Nice ; Very raw inexperienced 4yo who has no early pace but has hit the line hard at his trial and debut run. 1400m big tick , dry Geraldton can be hard to make ground , a problem with his racing pattern . Willing to take the punt he can stay close enough in the run to finish over the top.

Best Trifecta r6 Box Numbers 1 2 3 7 .

Combining the 2 metro visitors with good Gero records with the two locals who have performed consistently at this level. Both the locals have drawn awkward but hopefully they can overcome it at juicy odds.

Best Bunbury Bets

Best SRM Bunbury r4 ; Wynn Las Vegas (10) win , Extreme Ruler (1) Top 3.

Wynn Las Vegas went down as a very heavily backed fav on debut , charging home when getting out to late . That was an extremely weak maiden , this is oh so slightly stronger and we are looking at $1.30. Think it settles closer from the inside barrier and makes amends but that is gross unders. Extreme Ruler was the quinella horse in the same race and could only manage 3rd . Still looks the best value out of the other 3 in the field given any hope hence he goes in for top 3 . Tabtouch price is currently $3.19 , move Extreme Ruler back to 4th is $2.25 , both are decent bets if you want to trust the fav wins. Shop around for better odds.

Best Novelties Bunbury r5 ; Old Mate Henry was beaten at $1.40 last start and has been a fav punters nightmare . Now he turns up in a even weaker maiden at $1.20. I don’t blame the bookies in this line up but you can’t possibly back a horse like him at Winx odds so we play the Novelties

SRM’S Old Mate Henry Win ( 1) , Harris Road Top 2 , 3 , 4

Harris Road was beaten under 4 lengths this track & distance on debut so with extra fitness and experience is the dart horse we have included in the SRM. Obviously the further back we go , the smaller the dividend. Currently Top 2 is paying $5.22 , 3 $2.75 and 4 $1.80 I suggest under $2 is not worth the risk.

Best Each Way Belmont r6 Lyrical Angel ; Had no right to finish as close as she did last start , coming from an impossible position on the corner . Only won 2 / 17 however her Belmont stats are far superior to anywhere else. Weather she wants it wetter to really show her best remains to be seen but she looks a great heavy place each way bet.

Best Bet Kalgoorlie r6 Sentimental Hero ; Had a great duel with Ginger Baker in the Coolgardie Cup but couldn’t get past him. He now presents 3rd up with an extra 340m and a kg better off to get revenge. Ginger won’t give up without a fight but at 61kgs there has to be a tipping point. Starry Heights is currently favourite. He dominated this race and then the Kalgoorlie Cup last year but hasn’t fired a shot since. Will appreciate the dry ground and you can never rule a Williams horse out in a feature race. Be some training effort jumping up from 1400m.

Weekend Winners

Belmont r2 Niccimota ; If it bounces straight to the front $3.10 is a good price , if something has the pace to make it work early it’s gross unders. I’m banking on it going straight to the top.

Railway Watch R5 Cosmic Crusader ; We tipped him as a leading contender before last weeks demolition job. Strangely he turns up here 1 week later , up in class , up to 1650m and 2nd up. Yes he has these covered ability wise , especially at the weights but at $1.45 no thanks. He is 2nd up off an injury enforced long spell in just 7 days. Reading between the lines maybe they couldn’t pass up the opportunity to earn the ranking points to guarantee a Railway start? I’m sure they wouldn’t be running if he wasn’t bucking his brand off but at the odds I’m happy to just watch a good horse go round and wait for the feature races down the track to back him again.

Best Bet R6 Nine Ball ; Beaten at $1.24 in a maiden first up , then made amends in first maiden grade and then a c3. She led first up and then used a brilliant turn of foot from the back in both her wins. They were pretty thin races so $3.10 in graduation company is questionable , providing the track plays fair to swoopers she is still clearly the one to beat.

SRM Nine Ball (9) Top 2 , Centre Bond (6) Top 4 ; Centre Bond finally broke through last start after burning punters as favourite on multiple occasions. Maybe the confidence boost will see him go on with it and he is never far away , even in those defeats so top 4 looks a viable option.

Bunbury Best Bets

R3 Quinella No’s 2 & 3 ; They are literally the only two in the race with any form to speak of whatsoever with Classic Turn the next best. Again it will be short but they keep lobbing at above $2 . This one might even go close to paying odds on but it’s better than bank interest and we are well in front on these quinella’s .

Best Bet Bunbury r5 Wynn Las Vegas ; 3yo taking on the older horses on debut over 1400m from a wide draw. Not usually a set up to declare $2.05 the best bet of the day however he has found a very thin maiden. His trials have been solid , the latest a close 2nd to an impressive debut winner yesterday . We will let Pike worry about the barrier. Extreme Ruler is the only runner of the raced brigade with any form. A repeat of last start stretched a further 200m would make the fav earn it and the quinella likely. . The other debutantes are complete guesswork.

Belmont r1 Novelties ;

1 , 2 , 5 , 4 In Order ; These obvious quinella’s in small fields continue to lob at decent enough prices . I think Hasani is best placed to win again while Saam Time Lucky is the only logical danger. Saw enough in Rockstar Queen’s debut in a good quality 1100m maiden to suggest 1400m will suit better and she has Pike jumping on to make her 3rd pick.

Main Bet quinella , I find there isn’t usually enough extra in the exacta price to take the extra risk.

Trifecta in order , won’t pay much but at $1 a unit profit is profit if we happen to get it right.

First 4 In order , obviously the more legs we add the less likely and we are going pretty much in market order.

Best Bet Belmont r3 Surfside Session ; Thought the first up run was good enough to see a repeat performance take this out . Drew the outside that day and worked hard early whereas he comes up with barrier 1 today. De Grandhome’s trial was sharp , Pike in a stalking position is always dangerous and he is the quinella horse as the market suggests.

Best Value Belmont r7 Seeyouatthesession ; Thought he was a danger to Prince last time and although he wasn’t , there is more pressure up front in this harder race. Considering Prince is $9 into $5 and Session is $31 into $11 , I wish I got the 31s but there is still value in the $11 each way.

SRM : Both to finish top 4 (No’s 7 & 11)

Boxed Trifecta : 4 7 9 11 ; Empress of India and Promising map the best out of the other key chances. Hoping Pin Deep and Military Power cut up each other and get overrun .
